Search Engine Marketing Can Boost Credibility
One of the many ways that companies are building their brand, appealing to investors, and increasing sales opportunities
is through search engine marketing, which is using higher placement on search engine results to present an
appealing presence. Search engine marketing works best for companies that sell products or services through the
Internet or use their websites for generating sales leads.
The more a company's name surfaces during an Internet search the more its credibility increases among investors and
increasing media coverage. Although recently, volumes of spam sent on behalf of penny stocks caused their prices to
increase, resulting in stock fraud charges against a few who profited the most from the pricing move.
Optimizing a website for search engines is often seen as merely making the website more in compliance with the
guidelines of the search engine. Typically, specific factors are involved, which when seen through the engine's
algorithm puts every site on an even playing field and subject to being the target of a search. Unfortunately,
not all players play by the same rules and they may spam keywords in their title text, along with other
technical barricades that may prevent sites from reaching their market potential.
Sponsored results bring about mixed feelings among those involved in search engine marketing and although search
engine operators claim that paid results are excluded from ranking algorithms, some search engines may allow
payment from a website to influence its ranking. Without the person searching for results being aware of this,
they may believe the rankings indicate the website's popularity is higher than it really is, which can hurt a
search engine marketing plan.
There are numerous methods that companies can use to draw attention to their websites and make them appear more
popular, but using the so-called black hat methods can backfire. By spamming keywords into their websites or
creating pages that have no purpose other than linking to their site, they not only upset the spider algorithms,
they also upset the users who end up on the page resulting from an unrelated search.
